slow down for christmas

Don’t be in a hurry to get to Christmas

Assuming you are reading this on December 13, there are 12 days until Christmas. Some marketing campaigns starting today are counting down the 12 days of Christmas because they are in a hurry to get to Christmas. It need not be that way for you.

Slow down for Christmas and enjoy this Advent to prepare.

We are only in the second of the four weeks of Advent. Christmas does not begin until December 25 and then it goes on for 12 days.

A Little Background on the 12 Days of Christmas

The counting of the 12 days of Christmas (called Christmastide) begins on Christmas day. God coming to the world — the incarnation — is so important to us that we celebrate Christmas until the Epiphany on January 6, the 12th day of Christmas. The Christmas season does not end until the second Sunday in January with the celebration of the Baptism of Our Lord.

Final Sobering Thoughts to Slow You Down (I Hope)

  • This Christmas has never occurred before and will never occur again. Savor it.
  • There might be someone with you this Christmas that will not be here next year. Since we do not know who among will die in the coming year, enjoy the time you have with all whom God has put in your life.
  • Next Christmas, there might be someone who has not even been conceived. To you is the duty gathering the stories and traditions that go with your celebration of Christmas. To pass these on requires us to be present in each moment recording for the generations to come. 1

This is an amazing time of year, slow down and enjoy each moment!
