Scripture says if we have faith in Jesus and follow His teachings, we can be re-created in his likeness. What is the method of developing faith in Jesus? In fact, how do we go about developing faith in any person?
Faith Is Rooted In Trust
Faith is rooted in trust, and trust must be earned. You learn to trust a person by their actions. Stephen Covey wrote in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People about trust accounts. When a person does something worthy of your trust, they make a deposit in the trust account you keep for them. When a person does something that breaks your trust, they make a withdrawal from their trust account.
Many of us start our Christian life giving Jesus a zero or a negative balance in the trust account we hold for Him. We put the responsibility on Jesus to earn our trust.
In watching a person’s actions, we make the judgement about of trust we will give them. It is different with Jesus. We must take the first step and live according to His teachings and then see if we get His promised results. One of the best places to start is live the Beatitudes. Try #5: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy”. Begin living a life where you give more mercy and see what happens.
If you notice a more abundant life in 30 days, Jesus came through on His promise and it will be time to add to His trust account.
If you do not notice a difference after showing more mercy in 30 days, you could say Jesus’ plan does not work and make a withdrawal from His account or you could ask why life is no more abundant after showing more mercy for a month. I promise that if you take a serious look at yourself over the last 30-days you will find that you may not have been as merciful as you think you were.
Now, if I am wrong and your mercy was on par with Mother Teresa, you don’t need to read my ramblings any more but if I am right, try another 30 days and see what happens.
